In my mind it is definitely worth it for all the reasons stated above.

The highlight for me was whilst still on the tarmac at Gatwick I noticed that the door to the cockpit was open. I was stuck in my seat at the time but told my husband to take the children to have a look. The lovely pilots allowed us all into the cockpit and had a nice chat with us.

I loved it when it was free to choose, and with a 3 person family it was ideal as stated above. The biggest win for me was the little shelf/cubby hole that you had, meaning that the tray tables didn't need to be down as much, which increase sthe feeling of space.

Now as a family of 4, I'd rather not chance who I sit next to and rather not pay. We take our chances and sit across the middle downstairs.
