Magic Bands for offsite guests to be tested - start by end of January

inline imageFull MyMagic+ testing for offsite guests to take place during January

Disney will soon begin testing the full range of MyMagic+ components for offsite resort guests.

During January 2014, selected offsite guests will be testing most of the MyMagic+ elements, including My Disney Experience, FastPass+ at all four parks and the use of MagicBands. Disney has previously said that MagicBands will be available to offsite guests for a fee in place of using the card based ticket media.

This test is significant, because it will represent the first time that offsite guests can use the full range of MyMagic+ services. The current tests of FastPass+ at Disney's Animal Kingdom and the upcoming Magic Kingdom test are restricted to just the FastPass+ component.

So does this mean we can use our phones/tablets etc. to book rides ahead of schedule? i.e. no need to wait till the day and visit a 'kiosk' ?

Not sure, it may or may not mean that

you have to pay to get some benefit as the band (This was what disney said at start of the roll-out)
you have to pay extra to get the advance reservation
can book from your app ahead
or can book from your app on the day only

It doesn't really mean anything yet. I guess we will find out soon!

My bet is - you need to pay extra to get the magicband. You need to pay extra on top of the magicband to get advance option. You can use the app without additional cost. I am by no means reliable source of info

Brilliant! I would definitely pay to be able to book in advance!

do the bands have a charge when only using them for fastpasses? we go in august and the fast passes were invaluable last time we went, if there is a charge I just hope its not as expensive as the universal ones

Fast Pass + is free, and you can book on the day without magicband.
Magicband is extra if staying offsite but I have no idea any additional rules. They haven't been made public yet.
