Alaska, Trains and Boats and Planes Day 8 Collage Fjords

The Cast;

Me... Beryl (grumpys wife)
DH... Pete (love of my life, honest)
DSIL... Diane (nuttychick)
DB... Dave

30th May 2008

Today we were to be cruising Collage Fjords, so called because some of the glaciers were named after the collages in Boston, Harvard, Yale etc.
We weren't arriving in the fjords until 3pm, but being the hardy sailors we were by now, we were all wrapped up and up on deck waiting to enter Collage Fjords.
The weather today was dramatically different to yesterday in Glacier Bay. Yet somehow it was still amazing. It made you see everything in a different light. It was somewhat eerie looking.

As we got nearer to the Fjords the chucks of ice that were floating in the sea got bigger and bigger.

Again we saw seals and their pups on the flows. A pod of Killer Whales decided to pass our ship but I was only lucky enough to see the dorsal fin of one of them.
This was the same sort of landscape as yesterday but changed so dramatically by the weather, yet still strangely beautiful.

We again saw and heard the Glaciers calving. The noise when this happens is so loud and sounds like a crack of a gunshot echoing everywhere around you.
It was really cold today but again we found it hard to tear ourselves away.

Eventually we gave in and went and sat in the restaurant, with a cup of hot chocolate by a picture window for the rest of our time in Collage Fjords.

We had an early dinner tonight as tomorrow we are leaving the ship to start our land tour. The cases had to be outside our staterooms by 9pm, so it was an early night as we had to be up by 5.30am.
Another great day was had by all.

Edited at 06:00 PM.

The scenery looks dramatic with the weather changing. Good idea to go inside and have a hot chocolate.

How good are your photo's... Excellent trippy Beryl.
Started reading on Day 8 ... then had to go search for the start !
Now up to date and looking forward to the land reports. If I'm late for work tomorrow I'm gonna blame your trippy
Couldn't switch off till I'd read them all.
More wonderful photo's please ... Sleep time now
