Thank you.i have had sore eyes for three weeks.they are red, bloodshot, sore and itchy, and when I wake in the morning my eyelids are swollen.i have used chloramphenicol eye ointment for 3 weeks (incase of conjunctivitis) and sodium cromoglcate (incase of allergies) .its settles down but never goes completely.do you think I need to see an optician?

I would see a doctor rather than an optician. Ask him to check your thyroid levels too as this can affect your eyes. Hope you are ok x

Our local Specsavers offers an eye health check service, I think it’s £25. My DD used it recently when she had a sore eye, it saved a trip to a&e and she had an answer there and then.

Whenever I have a medical problem I go and see a medical professional rather than post on a forum full of strangers ...

Well said, Andybear. I have often thought that it should be against Dibb rules to seek or give medical advice on here.
