Hope your son is ok now. I don't think it was just a scrap but an unprovoked attack where the boy had to be pulled off by a member of the public. Your son shouldn't have too put up with that.

I am so sorry this happened to your son. Yet another teacher and no, this is not common. This is a full on assault, look at his poor mouth!
I'm so glad you contacted the police, depending on your local authority, your hands are tied to what you can do to punish a pupil (like this would maybe merit a suspension but not an exclusion). So by all means, get the police involved. This is part of their job and they're happy to support the community, particularly if parents condone this behaviour. |

Just copied this from Goggle.
The ban on corporal punishment came into force in 1986 in British state schools (private schools took a while longer: until 1998 in England and Wales, 2000 in Scotland and 2003 in Northern Ireland).1 Jul 2016. I know when my 2 oldest went to school (1990 on wards, they definitely didn't have it in Scotland). Hope it doesn't impact on him too much, happened to my youngest on a night out and it had a huge impact on his confidence for a good while. |

Your poor son. I really hope he is ok and can move on from this horrible experience. I would do the same in your position and absolutely report to the police. An unprovoked attack is outrageous and they need to learn very quickly that any sort of violence against someone else like that not tolerated.
If someone punched me in the street when I'd done nothing, I'd 100% be reporting it to the police. Hope you are OK as well! |

If I were to guess, the police will visit the boy and his parents to give him a stern talking too. If he has form for this behaviour he may face arrest but this would be extreme in my experience.
Looking at the injury to your son I’m guessing the school will suspend all three. Two for one week and the person who hit your son for two weeks. Expulsion would seem extreme for the incident you describe. No one can punish for what may have been had the member of the public not showed up. I get what you would want to happen may be a lot more severe.

Your poor boy, I hope he is ok.
To the couple of posters who think that this incident being reported to the police is an overreaction - how serious would it need to be for you to call the police? Teeth knocked out? broken bones? concussion? a knife used? Because sadly in this day and age all of these things happen in some places on a regular basis. I am gobsmacked that some think that an assault is not worthy of calling the police for. Who knows how this boys will turn out in the future if they know there is no retribution for what they have done. Surely a visit from the police to put the fear of god in them from ever repeating this is a good thing, no? |
