This has got me interested. Last year we drove straight back from Manchester landing at 6:30am I couldn't keep my eyes open and hubby did the driving. Next year we are going with my parents in their brute of a vehicle and I'll be doing the driving. I would like to use this day option (I'd asked him before if this was something but he said nope couldn't be done until I saw it here) but hubby still saying no (think he obsessed with collecting our dogs from the kennels as usual). It's only about a a 2 1/2hr drive back in good traffic but it seemed a lot longer with tiredness and I'm not being funny but dont want him to drive my dad's car (8seater) back when tired either.

If we can't get Manchester flights and fly from Gatwick we always do this

Have a couple of hours sleep, get up and have a shower then set out on the 4 hours journey home

The difference it makes is huge... no longer do I have to watch DH like a hawk in case he falls asleep

Watching the hubby like a hawk, that's the bit I worry about. I don't drive (yet.. Doing lessons but even if I pass I doubt if I'd fancy driving from Gatwick in hubby's beast). I know I could easily nod off but I have had to stay awake to chunter on to hubby to make sure he's awake.

Yep done it a few times especially if going from Gatwick, as we have a three/four/five or seven hour trip( these have all been examples for us driving home)

We have stayed at the Bloc Gatwick x2
Yotel
Hilton Gatwick
Sofitel Heathrow
Hilton Heathrow

You can book direct with the hotel or I have used Day.use .com

For us its always worth it as I would rather be safe than sorry.

I’m looking into this too. DH thinks it’s a waste of money, I’m not taking the risk.
Does anyone know if we could squeeze 2 adults and 2 children into a Bloc hotel room at Gatwick airport? Dayuse doesn’t have an availability for my date. I think we’ll be too tired to care about whether we’ve got tons of space!

Where do people stay at Heathrow? I've looked on the dayroom/dayuse websites, but they don't have family rooms - do you contact the hotel directly? Those using Premier Inns, do they do day rooms? Or do you get a regular room, tell them that you're checking in late and then leave at checkout?

We’ve just booked the Hilton at Gatwick airport day room for £69. We get if from 9 til 6 and our flight back to Glasgow is at 10.10pm so suits us. Let’s us get a shower and a bit of a sleep. DD (25) is thinking of going into London for a few hours depending if she tired or not
