August 2019 Last Minute

Hello,

Due to a change in circumstances we’re now able to take a Disney/Universal Trip in August 2019. When going previously with family I’ve booked over a year in advance, but as I won’t have finalised holidays dates until April/May this will be a fairly last minute booking. Does anyone have an advice/experience of booking this close to going?

We’re two adults so we don’t have to worry about doing long park hours etc. We’re looking at going for 2 weeks, split between Disney and Universal, probably adding on a dining plan in Disney for ease. I’m just not sure the best way to go about booking so last minute, whether to go with a travel agent or book separately.

Any advice would be appreciated!

My feeling is that with people holding back on booking through fear of Brexit (however unfounded) you should be OK and maybe even pick up deal.

Every year we have always booked around April/May for a August holiday. Never felt rushed or panicked.
We always book DIY and book Disney hotels via Disney US, as they do late deals. Around early May I think they release their free dining, but thats usually very end of August arrivals. They always do a 30% off summer deal for room only when we book, but you can add dining on.
In 2017 we got AKL on the US site for less than PORS on the UK site.
If adding dining on as a paid option, it doesnt always provide good value.
Disney UK park tickets are usually better and cheaper so get these separately.
If you dont mind booking indirect flights, then look at expedia etc for flights with AA, Delta or United. Usually cheaper last minute than UK airlines.
You will still have plenty of time to plan and book your 60 day fast passes.

You wont really get a deal relating to Brexit, unless the exchange rate shots up.
People seem to forget that UK visitors are only a tiny percentage of Disney World visitors and I dont think many people have really been put of going to Disney because of Brexit, especially when most UK visitors book over a year in advance.

!
Only for Disney could booking 5 months in advance be considered last minute! 😁

Sorry that was no help at all

I know, it is slightly ridiculous! We likely won’t be booking until May however so will only have three months to organise which seems short in comparison to my previous trips!

Following this as we are in a similar situation, father has been in hospital (got out today) so didn't want to book anything whilst he was there. We are looking at Universal this time though.

Reassuring knowing that later deals are possible. We’re looking to go last 2 weeks and not booked anything yet.

Your message reads as if you think now is last minute for August. It's really not. You have plenty of time. In 2017 we booked in late July to travel in August (and back before the end of August).

Your main decision, if you're not tied to school holidays is whether you want to be out there for the Star Wars opening on 29/8 or home by then. Then plug some dates into places like Kayak, Skyscanner etc and see what you can find.
