Mobile Giving your newly turned 18 year old advice

So imagine you have a son / daughter that has just turned 18 years old.

Based on your youth what advice would you give them?

This is just for fun- all are welcome to join in

None, they know everything at that age!

Would tell them to enjoy their twenties, not rush into moving out, or settling down. Travel, live a little.

Despite having had kids and step kids going through the teenage years I had forgotten about the "know everything" period !

Well this is pretty easy for me as DS will turn 18 at the end of the year.

Based on my life at that age...

Travel more
Invest in property as soon as you can

However DS is nothing at all like I was at that age, he's far more adventurous, sensible and financially savvy so usually my advice is more along the lines of...

Be careful
Don't show off (he thinks he's invincible and he's VERY active, this worries me a LOT)
Oh and, always wear a condom, ALWAYS. (he loves it when I try talking to him about that!)

I've just spat coffee over my keyboard

I can imagine his reaction to your comment..."awww mum! stop embarassing me!"

My ds will be 21 next month but acts 12. Hes been with his gf for years and has quite a boring life tbh. His gf is mad like me and goes on lots of hols and likes a drink and hes chilled out like his dad lol. Hes quite happy going to work and coming home and doing nothing. We keep trying to get them to get a flat as his gf really wants to but hes no way, not yet lol. He goes away abroad every year but honestly hes not that bothered but in a way I'm glad hes not a party animal and off out getting drunk all the time.

I wouldn’t bother as they apparently know everything and you know nothing.
That’s what my eldest son told me so I just let him get on with it but guess who he came to when he got himself in mess financially.
He expected me to sort it out but as I reminded him he knew it all and I knew nothing.
It did him good to learn the hard way and is now very financially aware.
