The government should provide enough support to see the airlines through.
They've been more than happy throwing money at other projects with little to show for it but we need the airlines if we're going to rebuild the economy after this is over. The cynic in me though thinks they've a few vulture capitalist friends who'd be happy to pick up the pieces at a snip. I really hope air travel is restored quickly. |

If the Government 'lets' airlines fold there would be a reasonable tax income hit from the loss of APD and VAT (directly and indirectly).

I really fear for airlines and tour operators if they miss another summer season.

If the industry does go bust there will be someone who replaces them when it all gets going again.
When Laker was put out of business many thought it was the end of trans-Atlantic travel for the majority. But until the pandemic more of us were crossing the pond than at any other time in history. Likewise, the airports may go bust but they will be snapped up by someone who will see an opportunity. May not see a 3rd runway at LHR, but will certainly see a buoyant airport. And is Manchester not owned by the Local Authority? If so, that won’t go bust. May even get LHR and LGW back in British hands too👍👍 |

Can I hitch a lift? My selling points are...I used to be cabin crew so can look after you all with drinks and snacks, I'm now a primary school teacher so can keep the wee ones entertained and I live 30 mins from GLA!

I would not take a deal paid by DD... zero protection if they went bust.

There is always someone with a bag of money ready to step in...
Admin / debt restructuring and new buyers likely over the next year I would suggest. But there will always be someone ready to take your money. Edited at 12:21 AM. |

The government , you mean us , the tax payer.
I think not. There will be far more important things to worry about than holidays to Florida if the global situation doesn’t start recovering before 22. As stated the stronger airlines are seeing freight increasing so will survive , others who weren’t stable to begin with, may not . |

We should have gone last may, so moved our flights to September but still uncertain about it. We have however booked a fly drive even though we won’t be picking up the car. This does mean if Virgin does go under the government is on the hook for my money or at least ATOL.

I think I’ll team up with a few Dibbers and get this going for a trip if all the airlines are bust.
