You would need to check with the owner,it depends how you are paying,I take payment from American renters via paypal that way I can leave the money in my paypal account and then forward the same amount back to them once they have left and I know everything is in order.

I would definately speak to the owner if their normal procedue is to return the dollar deposit back to you in the form of the cheque, then I would assume you would recieve the rate at the time you pay the cheque in, also if the cheque is drawn on America dont forget to check if your bank will make charges for processing.

I presume you are renting through a US owner, and if so I would doubt they would want to deal in Sterling at all.
As far as they are concerned you are paying them $500 deposit and they will return the same amount as long as there are no problems with the villa when you leave. Unfortunately, if your $500 is worth less in Sterling once it's returned then you will have to bear the cost, just as you would if returning cash or travellers cheques back to your bank or bureau de change. Is there not an option to pay their MC on arrival with cash or CC? Jill |

You are not going to lose £50, maybe a couple of £'s but I get your drift.
Look on the bright side you could make on it. |

If you are paying in dollars then you should get back $500, but depending on when your holiday is, will depend on how much this is worth when you recash it. It may be that it will be worth more or maybe a little less, but it is only going to be a few pounds.
I would ask the owner (presumably they live in the US) how they are going to return your $500. If they send you a US dollar cheque from their personal account how are you going to cash it back into pounds? I think you will have to request they repay your money in dollar Travellers cheque. Most UK owners accept either dollar or GBpound payments as it is a requirement for us to have a US bank account - so we have no problems sending US guests' cheques back to our US bank, but I dont suppose that a US owner will need tothe GBP account.
