I went to London with friends in August. I used my Oyster card but they just used their debit cards. I stuck with my Oyster card as I didn't like the idea of having to keep getting my debit card in and out of my purse. Also given the choice I'd rather loose my Oyster card than my debit card!

As above just use any old contactless card you have.
However, central London is not that big when it comes down to it and you'll get far more from your visit if you walk more often than tube. You'll see a lot, and often stuff you may otherwise miss. I had a meeting in London today and instead of jumping on the tube from Victoria to Oxford Circus, I walked. It's only two miles or so, it was a lovely sunny morning and the walk took me right past Buckingham Palace, through Green Park, up Piccadilly, onto Regent Street and up to my ultimate destination North of Oxford Circus. So much nicer than the tube. |

I was there 2 weeks ago for the Proms. I set up an account so I could track my spending, but just used Apple Pay on my phone. As my mum has a free bus pass, we used those rather than the tube. It’s £1.50 for a single journey, (can be multiple busses within 1 hour,) and a maximum cap of £4.50. Much cheaper than using the tube and equally as convenient on the weekend.
A colleague of mine at work recommended downloading the City Mapper app as well, absolutely brilliant, just put in where you want to go (you’ll need location services switched on,) and it’ll give you the quickest routes to take. |

I used either Apple Pay or had a contactless card in a wallet part of my phone. It was very easy. I also wasn’t keen on getting my card lost, I had visions of dropping it between the escalator steps😳
