While reading this thread a second bag has been delivered this morning!

As other people have said, I give to our local charities a hospice and cancer research shops directly.

Perhaps we should all recycle more and make new clothing out of old stuff.

Sadly when my mum passed away in 2016 I had the not nice job of coming home and sorting everything out...all good stuff hardly worn..most with labels still on.
I was living in Spain at the time and had never seen these bags before.
I thought they really were going to the said charities.
I left the bags on the door step ...and a knife went through me when I watched young lads pick them up and just literally throw them from the pavement to the van...it was heart breaking.
I swore never to do that again ...and only give to hospices and animal charities that I take into the shop myself.

I know it's unlikely, but how do you know they don't work directly for a hospice or animal charity (or any other charity)? They've got to collect the bags somehow and I'm sure they want to collect as many as possible in as quick as time as possible. If they are collecting clothes then it doesn't really matter how they handle the bags. They are going to throw them from pavement to van whether they work for the charity or not. I don't see the issue?

I suspect when people take their bags to the charity shop some places just throw them in a back room to be sorted out later.

(Of course, in reality, many of these collectors are profit-making businesses. They sell the bags of clothes and give a fraction of the money they make to charity. A bit like charity greeting cards and other charity things you can buy).
