Mobile Flight Alerts

Hi everyone!
In a few weeks we will be a year away from our trip to America in 2020! I want to start looking at flights straight away and hopefully get a great deal... I know August will be very pricey anyways.

Has anyone any suggestions of where i should be looking everyday? I will set up a skyscaner alert but other than that is there anything else I can do not to miss good flights!

Thank you

The flights will be released at the 11 month mark and are usually most expensive on release day before dropping. Try Momondo and Kayak as well as Skyscanner. I’m hoping for a good deal in the BA sale in September.

Scheduled airlines are released 11 months to the day, charter airlines are released anything up to 18 months in advance. We booked our August 2020 flights in December 2018!

Google flights, you can set an alert there and they also tell you if the price is high, low or average for your dates.

It's not exact science

for the last 3 years, I booked my flights on release day (360 days out with lufthansa) and they were the cheapest, and only kept on rising since then. Cheapest price had only been available for a few hours.

BA will release flights at 355 days, and most other airlines at 11 months. For indirect involving a codeshare, itineraries only become available when all of the airlines involved have released their prices.

use the fare codes to check if and when the flights are at their cheapest.

The only secret to "cheap" flights is to set a budget (aka a price you'd be happy with)
check everyday from the release dates
if the price falls below the target price you'd be happy to pay, book within the next few minutes or the price will be gone and may never return

once booked, NEVER go back to check prices.

also consider flying "locally", either choose a different UK airport (consider the extra costs in transport) or arriving at a local airport.
If you don't drive, then MCO is basically the only airport worth considering
if you drive, then price up flights to TPA, FLL, JAX, MIA, and so on.

If you don't mind a drive up north then have a look out of Glasgow airport also... Very cheap flights for August as the Scottish schools are back.

Google flights. They notify you the moment there is a price change. It"s quite eye opening seeing how these airlines juggle their prices trying to get you to panic buy. I have been watching Paphos flights for the last few months. One day the price is £450 a day later its £ 370 then back to £400 with a lowest price of £285.

I took a screenshot of booked seats. In a week there were 6 price changes without a seat being booked. Amazing.

Set alerts on Kayak and Skyscanner, when flights start popping up, check Netflights.

We usually set an alert for a one way flight for our outbound flight. That way we know that return flights are imminent.

Earlier the better in my experience

I’ve travelled to Florida on two occasions in the last 5 years with Virgin.

I basically booked the days after they released the return flight date (11 months) In my experience the flights only went up in price (School Holidays) after they were released. It cost me £500 extra on the first occasion waiting an extra few days for a family of 4.

I was considering going away for Xmas/ New Year 2019 and found the flights for £2100 (4 people) when they were released. I waited a few weeks to see where I would be financially and they had gone to £3000. They are now more and I’m still kicking myself.

I agree with a previous post about looking at Glasgow airport as I found some fantastic prices flying with Virgin to MCO a year I wasn’t going. Even adding a hotel stay the night before at the airport I would have saved a mini fortune.

If you have a look at Jacks Flight Club it shows you how to download a tool so that you can overlay The Google Search with Skyscanner or Momondo.

Good luck
