I have to avoid sugary drinks but my doctor told me a packet of salty crisps a day is a good idea in this weather.

When I was in Africa and when I'm doing lengthy or tough exercise in the heat, I use these - wiggle/high5-zero-...blets-20-tabs/ - you can get them from any running, cycling etc. shop as well as online.
I get really terrible headaches in hot weather, probably not replenishing salts, but these really help. As an aside, they're also good for preventing a hangover if you can get one down before you go to bed, or helping to cure it in the morning!

I would freeze a couple of small bottles of water and take them with you, to drink and or poor over you. If you have a cooling towel take this and once wet put it on the back of your neck if this is possible. Power aid or lucozade sport is full of rehydrating minerals. Hope this helps, heat stroke is horrendous

Thank you all! I will get myself a lucazade sport drink and will take a banana and some cucumber with me for my lunch.

My DH can get heatstroke walking from the car to the front door in Florida. The first time he was ill was in Vegas after waiting outside for the hire car, doctor recommended Gator Aid which worked. He now always uses the Zero hydration tablets, mentioned above dissolved in his water bottle. If he just has plain water he quickly becomes ill. I crave crisps if I’m becoming dehydrated.

Drink water. Then drink more water. Repeat.
You can tell you are properly hydrated by the number of times you go to the loo. Aim for at least your normal regularity. If you aren't going that often you are dehydrating which leads to sunstroke. I had it two years ago and it was horrible. |
