I'm just trying to justify it against a summer holiday to Greece
I picked Florida over Greece as Florida was cheaper but not including tickets. Going towards end of August for ten nights , direct there indirect on way back. Flight plus car was £580 each and I thought that was reasonable.

Flights- Indirect to Fort Lauderdale 1 stop. £230 per person. We are 2 adults 5 kids.
Car Hire £532 Dodge Grand Caravan booked through Auto Europe. For 3 of you this would be a bit cheaper as we need a Minivan.
Dibb Villa £1000.
Again you are looking for LBV, we had Holiday Inn LBV booked with free cancellation which was a family suite although for 3 a standard room would be fine. The family suite was similar to Villa price, standard room cheaper.
The key is getting decent flight prices and being flexible. We went for 16 nights as that was cheapest.
How do you find a dibb villa?
£1000 for 16nights sounds like a good deal

I think it will be doable.

We're flying on Monday indirect from Heathrow to Tampa with Virgin which cost £350pp including seat and bag. SUV for 9 nights is coming in at £270 so more like £420 for a fortnight. That would leave you around £1400 for accommodation.

That would be plenty - we're staying onsite for a week but also got a few nights offsite at Grande Villas in a 2 bedroom suite and that only cost £70 per night.

Would take some leg work and serious checking but I'd be fairly confident. As mentioned before, flexibility will be the key.

I normally pay around that for the flight from Manchester in school holidays direct. If you come back when schools return it would be cheaper.

A very good deal. £1500 is more common for 16 nights in summer

We are flying today. I paid £295 each for our flights

LHR TO JFK to Tampa

Car hire £427 for 16 nights

So £1427 for flights / car.
We have paid more to fly to Heathrow and an overnight hotel.

We have DVC but that would leave approx £1000 for accommodation.

Plus park tickets which are not an insignificant cost.

So it is doable. But it does require searching for the bargain and being able to pay in full when you see it.

It is do able we paid £360 for indirect flights Glasgow-Gatwick-Mco including car hire for 3 weeks time. We booked in the October flash sales last year.
Accommodation wise you can definitely pick up the Rosen inn or similar for the rest of your budget
