I think £107 a week should be more than enough, especially if he is coming home every week as he will probably bring his washing home (£5 a load in my sons halls )and be eating at home for a day. My ds has easily managed on a little less then this.

You are already paying out loads for him I think! I wouldn't give anymore than that personally.

Gosh, compared to some I'm mean and others I'm over generous! I've been giving ds £85 a week and he pays his own phone (£30 a month) from that. He has only come home a couple of times in term time and paid his own train fare. We only did him a food shop when we took him up at the start of the year. We also had to top up his accomodation as his maintenance loan didn't cover it all but that went straight to the uni not via him. He did do some student ambassador stuff but that wasn't much.

I was thinking at least £50/week but I really don't know.
No, she was in student accommodation but self catering. If we took her back at all, we would pick up a load of shopping. However I continued to pay for her phone, so food was really her only expense. It taught her to budget and plan meals. I think £30 for one person is more than sufficient. She worked to pay for going out and 'treats' if she wanted them.

For the past two years I've given my daughter £25 a week and I pay the extra for her rent that her loan doesn't cover. She hasn't wasted away yet😀

Just to add, she had always self catered and has become a very good cook.

Thanks everyone. Useful to see what others have done. I've just realised we are going to have to pay a load for him to have a parking space at Halls too. Then he also just mentioned there's a gym membership. It seems endless!

My son has about £75 a week. He's worked over the summer and has a few thousand in a help to buy ISA. He is hoping not to touch that thou. His accommodation is all paid for and his parking space. He paid out his car insurance in one go in April so no need to pay that. He has his mobile bill £25 a month to pay and then just food washing petrol and socialising. £75 should be more than enough. We will buy him bits of shopping when we see him. He's going to look for a job to help top up his savings and to buy Christmas presents etc. He has the option to return to his job next summer as well

I don't have kids but my brother paid for my nieces digs and mobile and also transferred £80 a week for her. That was 3yrs ago now though.

DD gets £25 per week for food and an online shop every 3 weeks which costs us about £45. She's managed fine for her first year, she tutors online and will use that money for next year as she has taken out a smaller maintenance loan.

If he has £107 a week for just living (not on accommodations ect.) he better off then most, I would cover anything more to be honest m, except for a good food shop at the start of term and helping with a few loads of washing. I have friends who had closer to £30 a week to live on self catering and survived very well from it.
