Horrendous weapons in London
(This picture IS in the Public Domain.)
My nephew is in the Met police. On Saturday evening he and his rapid response team attended an ‘affray’ in East London. This was seized. The red note book is about 6 inches long, to give an idea of scale. Absolutely horrendous. Edited at 12:25 PM. |

I worry too. My nephew and his girlfriend (also a PO) are based in East London and get involved in all sorts. They post some horrendous photos on their team’s Twitter page (authorised).
A few years ago he had a couple of nasty personal incidents when off duty. People he’d arrested previously, recognised him public and attacked him. The first time, he ended up in hospital with a fractured skull. Second time, he was just leaving a restaurant with my brother. A man at another table followed them out, picked up a wine bottle & smashed the bottom off to make a very dangerous weapon. Luckily brother and nephew got to their car in time. After that he moved house, 30 miles away. He can relax when off duty now. Edited at 12:43 PM. |

The problem is a general lack of respect for the law and useless Judges who give pathetic sentences. There is no deterrent anymore, the Police are seen to have no powers and are over-stretched add to this parents who are happy to defend little Johnny who is normally a good boy, so they get let off with a slapped wrist - oh and it "against peoples rights" to disclose details caught on CCTV etc.
The world is going mad and nobody dare challenge these lunatics |

My husband is an officer in the Met, in West London. These stories are an every day occurrence from his team and it totally terrifies me. It's just relentless for the officers and there is so much less respect these days, these kids don't care about the repercussions of their actions because the judicial system is totally inept.

In London at least, probably elsewhere too, it’s mainly drugs/gangs/prostitution related - they are one vicious circle.
My nephew works so many extra hours, often for time off in lieu instead of overtime. Trouble is trying to take the time off - only possible by another officer doing overtime to cover, and they have the same issue getting their extra time off ! He’s also used in other sections of the Met - the other week he was sent at short notice on embassy duty up in the west end because the diplomatic div was short staffed. His team have waited 3 weeks on occasion to get a search warrant to do a ‘dawn raid’ looking for drugs etc in a residential property, The whole crime and criminal justice system needs a real shake-up, and that would need mega investment. Not going to happen is it ? |

The issue is there are no more officers to deal with it - throwing money at it is for overtime etc - most front line officers DO NOT WANT the overtime or re-rostered rest days.
some met officers are at 50+ days straight in a row as they are having rest days cancelled etc and are not allowed leave. So when they say "we have extra officers on the street" what they mean is they have either robbed peter to pay paul or they are not giving front line staff any rest! |
