Wow, what an amazing adventure for him to be starting!

Mine are 19 and 22 and I don't imagine I will have them at home for many more years. I must admit that them 'flying the nest' isn't something I'm looking forward to, but I know they have to eventually. I know it must be a mixed time for you, but you must be very proud of your son.

Sandra, congratulate yourself and youre husband for bringing up a child who has the courage and independence to move away and live elsewhere.

You have given your son the key things in life, roots and wings. So important that young people can truly experience life rather than live in their parents shadow.

Well done to you and your hubby (and the dog). Also think of the great holidays, I love Canada, the open road, the space and the beautiful scenery.

Look on the bright side, he's 28 years old and not an 18 year old being sent to a war zone, and Canada is not far by plane. Just a month of your cake budget will pay for a return flight

I'm not detracting from any of the comments about what a credit he is to you, but today my heart goes out to you. Be kind to yourself. Big hugs x

My eldest son went to work in Australia and was expected to be away for two years! He came home earlier and stayed here. I was a blubbering mess all the way back from Heathrow on the day! Take care of yourself. He is a credit to you! And my son called more often to speak to us than he ever did/does in the UK!

Another who knows how you feel. Our DD is in Adelaide for two years, left last July. I just have my fingers and toes crossed she doesn't meet anyone and decide to stay, but at the moment she's not a fan of the Ozzy men and is adamant she is coming back to work in the UK.

You'll be able to facetime each other and the two years will fly by. Doesn't matter how old they are, you don't stop being a mum
