Severe anxiety help needed
My friend is due to go on holiday this week and she has, almost overnight, come down with awful anxiety about her holiday.
She has had a bad year health wise, but thankfully non of it is serious and she has been told everything is ok. What can anyone suggest she tries to help with the anxiety because at the moment she is unsure if she can make the flight or the holiday Thanks for any suggestions

I suggest a trip to the doctor. He/she will be able to provide medication to help. I had a severe anxiety attack and was prescribed propranolol. She must tell her travel insurance though.

No, with her family. This is what had flummoxed her as she has been abroad many times, but not for 4 years. She has no explanation at all and can’t pin point one thing.

She’s been and they have discussed something to help her a little bit.
It’s really scared her as she is normally not bothered by things like this.

Similar happened to my mum a few weeks back. She’s had a bit too much on her plate with work recently. 2 days before they were due to fly to Tenerife she starts crying, shaking, throwing up continuously. When my dad finally managed to call her down (I was in London) to find out what was wrong. The answer? She’d forgotten to print the boarding passes and due to redecorating she’d packed the printer and couldn’t get it to work because it had been unplugged etc.
Obviously she could have used her phone, she panicked about the battery. She could have gone to or house - across the road, literally - and used ours. She could have asked us to do it when we got back from London that night. (We were taking them to the airport!) But she was in such a state. She got up really early the next morning and went to the TUI shop and waited for it to open got them to print it. Even though I’d said I would do it when I got up (remember at this point they weren’t flying until the next day). She has NEVER had an episode like this, and honestly in comparison to things my mum has dealt with in life, this was nothing but she was a mess. Sometimes when your head gets like that there is nothing you can do but fight your way through it. I really hope your friend manages to go on holiday, but I know how strong that feeling can be.

I would suggest she gets some low dose Diazepam from the doctors. They work wonders and the doc will only supply enough for the trip. Doctors are used to patients having anxiety issues surrounding flying/holidays so your friend shouldn’t worry about asking for help of this kind.

When my anxiety gets bad and I feel really overwhelmed with everything. I just try and forget about everything else and take each day a few hours at a time. I just concentrate on me and my health. it does help take the pressure off me and helps me to think a bit clearer.
It's good your friend is talking about how she's feeling and has visited her gp. I would recommend she cuts out alcohol/caffeine and trys to stick to a sleep pattern. Also if she could try and even fit in a half hour walk per day this should all help her anxiety calm down. YouTube has good meditation videos. I really feel for your friend and sending her hugs anxiety is a horrible thing. |
