If Disneyland Park opens at 10am and extra magic time is advertised from 8.30 till 9.30 what happens in the intervening half hour?

At 9.30am they tend to lend the main day guests in. Sometimes they hold them in main street until 10am so you technically get EMT for that extra 30 minutes but in my most recent experiences everyone has been allowed in from 9.30am.

This is absolutely the case - 9.30 the hoards are admitted. Some rides don't allow guests to queue until 10 unless they have the hotel magic pass, but others (like Crush & BTM) will allow guests to enter the queue line from 9.30 even though the ride doesn't start running until 10am. This means at busy times, the wait time at 10am opening can be 60mins!
Fast pass machines don't work until 10am, but long lines just to get an FP will build up before 10 as the first passes out will be for 10-10.30 and therefore bypass the massive lines built up over the last 30mins!

We found in the Studios Park that they open other rides around 9.30 so you can get on them before the masses descend - like in the toy story area, for example.
