Deleting Your Own Thread
Is this a new option ?
I understand that threads need to be deleted, like the cull over the weekend, but my feelings are that forum members take the time to contribute to a thread, giving asked for opinions and advice and yet the thread starter can just delete the thread at will if they don't get the responses they like . if there are abusive posts they can be reported and the mods will remove them , the thread can also be closed or deleted at the discretion of the mods . Having this option may discourage people in responding to threads

DIBB Passholders have always been able to delete their own posts. The addition was brought in for non passholders as part of GDPR, just over a year ago.
We aren’t seeing any difference since it was added. Edited at 11:45 PM. |

I was talking about threads Stu , it's just I had responded to two threads recently and went to post and invalid thread popped up , I then saw the threads had gone .
since learnt that all members can delete their own threads ?

Members cant delete threads, only posts. If however they are the thread starter they can delete their first post in the thread which does effectively soft delete the thread. If they are not the thread starter then they can only delete individual posts that they have made.

I suppose it’s handy in some circumstances but agree it can be annoying- I had posted on a thread earlier and went back to see what the other points of view were but it had gone - presumably the OP had deleted.

Yes that's what I meant any member can delete a whole thread that they have started themselves , when you say you haven't seen any difference since the change do you mean difference in the amount of threads that have been deleted by forum members ? maybe now more people are aware of being able to delete them you will 😉 I have only just found out that you can delete a thread you started , if I don't like the response I get now I could just delete the thread , that's my point really it doesn't seem fair on those observing , by the way I wouldn't delete a thread as I understand that when you start a thread you are contributing to the forum and can expect a difference of opinions 😊

Admin can see threads that are deleted and if we notice a user making multiple posts then deleting them we would look at removing that member from the forums if deemed necessary.

We may be in the minority, some threads give a very varied opinion and I'm sometimes swayed on my own opinion by reading them so when it suddenly disappears for no reason , no harsh or abusive comments , it's disappointing .
We all think differently that's what keeps it all interesting 😊
