Paying for a condo in $$$

Hi I have booked a condo, and need to pay the deposit this will be in US $.

I am pretty sure some of you guys have done this in the past, what methods have you used, I am obviously looking for the cheapest but safest way.

Hi, the "safest" way would be to pay it on a Halifax Clariry credit card since you will have the protection that paying by CC offers. Alternatively, you can get a Revolut (or Monzo, Starling etc) card and load the � equivelant onto it, it will be automatically converted free of charge to $ at the point of payment.

We use our Fairfx card to pay for our villa just load what we need and it converts to $$s never had a problem or any charges.

If you have or maybe thought to get either a Halifax Clarity CC or the Post Office Cc which both give you the best interbank rates for sterling to dollars. If either of these are not suitable then a bank transfer from your account to the recipients account which is of course fee payable and not as secure as using your CC.

Thanks guys, not sure I have time to apply for any cards, I have spoken to my bank, and while there will be a fee, I was assured it was sae to do it this way.

I am a bit surprised you booked a condo without having to pay a deposit, or at least provide card details, in order to make the booking. You pay in the same way as paying for anything else over there. How are you planning to do that? Apart from the cards already mentioned, you can always use your UK credit/debit cards, although the bank fees will probably be higher. If you want to do an international online transfer bank-to-bank, then use a specialised online service such as Transferwise, rather than a bank's own service - it is much cheaper and has similar security.

I have booked with the owner direct, and paying the deposit is the issue, hence not paying with card,

I did look at Transferwise, but because I hadn't heard of them before chose the bank route, this is alien to me, as the owner we usually rent from is in the UK.

We booked a condo a few years ago and the owners sent us a invoice and we paid via PayPal and had no issues. That was their preferred method of payment.

How do they want to be paid ? Bank transfer, Paypal, credit card, draft ?

We paid our apartment invoice via PayPal this year, we set our Halifax Clarity cc as default payment method.
It was smooth and faultless.
