C&L Bangkok, Elephant Hills & Phuket adventure - March 2017 - Day 9 - Kata beach paddle boarding
Day 9 – Kata beach paddle boarding
We got up at 8 and went to breakfast. As usual, I had much more for breakfast than Chris ! We left at 9:30 to walk to Kata Beach, we'd walked a little of the way a few days before so knew it wouldn't take too long. It took us about 30 minutes to get to the dinosaur mini golf place which we were planning to make a stop at. This was 480 baht for the both of us. We had the place to ourselves - which is a good thing as I'm shocking and took ages to get it in the hole each time! It was very hot playing golf and we'd been diving in and out of the shade. We continued our walk to Kata Beach, we had a little trouble finding the beach itself and it took about 15 minutes to get there from the mini golf. It looked so beautiful and I went for a little dip . It was now about midday so we went for lunch on one of the beach from cafes. We both had chicken fried yellow noodles and a coke. This came to 320 baht. One of the things we wanted to try in Thailand was paddle boarding and I'd already found a place in Kata Beach that did it before leaving the UK, which was one the reasons we'd decided to walk to Kata. We headed over to SSS Dive and Surf Centre and asked to rent two paddle boards. It was quite expensive to have a lesson so we decided to just hire it for the afternoon, it was 400 each for 2 hours or 600 for half day, so we went for half day. They told us to come back in an hour and they'd drop us and the paddle boards down to the beach. We went and found a cafe with wifi so we could google how to paddle board . We had a mango smoothie too for 80 baht. We went back and sorted our stuff out so we could leave our bags at their shop and off we went. We took the boards to the water and started on our knees but before long were on our feet. We absolutely loved it . The first time I fell off was quite amusing though - i wobbled and automatically stepped backwards... mistake! I landed on my bum and backwards rolly pollyed off the board. Chris turned round in time just to see my bum in the air rolling off! I learnt not to step back after that! We came in, put more suncream on and then headed out to paddle to an island out in the water (they'd told us it was safe to paddle to). We got to it in about an hour but couldn't see any sand to pull up so just paddled round for a bit. One of the boards had a go-pro attachment so we made full use of it . I also spent the whole time paddling over to the island thinking I was Moana "See the line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me, and no one knows, how far it goes..." I can't sing but that didn't stop me from singing it at the top of my voice when no one was around! We headed back after being out for about 2 hours, I felt like I was getting sunburnt. I put on more suncream and we headed out for a while longer but we were absolutely shattered so we headed in. I think we'd had a total of 3 1/2 hours! I'd fallen in about 5 times, Chris 3. We waited for our boards to be picked up and I noticed how badly I had got sunburnt! I had factor 50 on but I'm guessing even that was enough for my pale skin while out at sea! We got a tuk tuk back for 300 baht, and were both very tired. I was feeling extremely hot from my sunburn and headed straight to the shop to buy some cooling aftersun. We were exhausted from our day paddle boarding and I wasn't feeling so good so we just headed to a restaurant called Papa near the hotel. I had a burger and Chris had a pizza, we also shared some garlic bread. I just had a soft drink and Chris had a beer. This was really good and came to 750 baht. We were off to Phi Phi Islands the next morning so we headed straight back and got an early night .

I hope you didn't suffer too long with the sunburn. You did well with the paddleboard.
Lovely food again!

Thank you Luckily the sunburn wasn't as bad as I expected! I am usually so careful so I was so annoyed that I got sunburnt

Haha it was brilliant, except the sun burn. But that was mainly due to my extremely pale skin! Paddle boarding was good fun if you get chance to try it.
