Hi
Has anyone booked the 1 full day trip whilst in New York to Washington? Just wondering if you actually manage to see a few things or if its too rushed? emx

Haven't done it as a day trip from NYC, but recently did 48 hours from Florida (2 nights in hotel). Due to delayed flight, we didn't arrive until 5pm, but walked the length of the National Mall, from Washington, to Lincoln Monument. The next day, we left hotel at 9am and walked to Ford Theatre, had breakfast along to Capitol Building, then back to White House for 11am for a tour, then out at 12, round a couple of the Smithsonians, jumped the metro to the Pentagon, then Arlington (found a cousin's grave) and ha d a fair walk about. Then jumped metro again to head to a Cheesecake Factory and head back to hotel about 7.30. My son reckoned we walked over 10 miles, but we did amble at times. We found it a very walkable city and you could jump a taxi to Pentagon/Arlington.
Hope this helps in terms of planning

not sure i would want to do 1 days, its 230 miles each way and even on the train your looking at 3 hours. even if you flew I'm not sure how much you would get done.

I'd agree. With travel time, one day might be too rushed. There is loads to do and see. We did a week and still did not see everything we wanted to. However, it was about 40 degrees everyday so we mainly did short days.

The train station is right in the middle of the main tourist sights, so its convenient in that way.
If you have a spare day and don't mind it being a long day you could get to see a reasonable amount. |

Its a escorted day trip on a bus so they take you to places to see different things
It leaves New York very early and gets back late

Would be limited if by bus unless very early start and very late end bus took around 4 hours when I did it last month can be a lot of traffic into dc and into nyc. I recommend a night stop over the areas to cover are also much bigger than you think.
Is a fab place to go though totally recommend it 😊 |
