If you could pick which one...
Between an extended OKW (if one comes up) or SSR? OKW was our first resort we stayed at and loved it but what is it like now? Which would you pick and why?
I bet you lovely Dibbers will be glad when I’ve bought and stop the questions

I wouldn’t choose either. Both are always available at short notice so you are getting no home resort advantage.
I’d pick somewhere that was hard to book. AKL and Boardwalk both have low point rooms that sell out before 7 months so they would be my preference. |

We love the Boardwalk but it’s the years left on the contract that puts me off.
AKL is a strong contestant as there is little $ diff between there and SS but the dues are slightly higher. How do ppl choose it’s so difficult as I like different things about each resort. Generally speaking do AKL always sell out before 7 months(I know you can be lucky with availability)

I would agree that Saratoga Springs and Old Key West are the last to sell out.
The annual dues are unpredictable and change year on year. For instance Animal Kingdom had an increase of 2.6% in 2018, Old Key West 4.9% and Saratoga Springs 4.5%. The lowest increase was Polynesian at 1.0% and Boardwalk at 1.2%. The highest was Boulder Ridge at 5.9%. Maintenance is different at each resort from year to year depending on what needs doing. The annual dues are very similar at present between the resorts you are looking at so it comes down to where you would be happy to stay. We have contracts at AK and Old Key West. We always stay at AK for part of the time because we love the hotel and would always be happy to stay there and We exchange our OKW points (bought as they were cheap) for somewhere else at 7 months because it's not our preference. Everyone is different. Some love it just like some hate AK. The old saying is buy where you want to stay. Hope you find what you are looking for. |

I wouldn't buy at OKW or SSR either, for reasons previously described. I think I'd be deterred from buying at BWV as at some point (though surprisingly that hasn't yet happened) the resale price will reduce as the end date gets closer. So for me that would leave AKV (though personally I'm not that keen on AKL so I'd likely choose somewhere different anyway!)

Thank you for all your input. I did put an offer on a fab AKL one last night and whilst talking to the realtor and she went to put offer in it was sold.

This is the reason why we now own at 3 resorts

SSR dues went up more than they should due to hurricane damage deductable. SSR is consistently calculated as best financial value.
Dues are still lower at SSR, but there is an unpredictability element at all resorts. However, what looks like small dues differences can add up to a huge sum over life of contract. Many underestimate this. BWV I personally wouldn't even consider, it's not got long enough on it for price demanded in my view. Realisation when/ if coming to sell in 15 years average ownership could be poor. AKL good contender but dues put people off. Animals a very unpredictable element so higher risk. Also remoteness may begin to grate with some, I personally love it though. OP I believe is considering 1 bed in May and Summer, so home resort advantage may not be overly important. OP said may also travel Easter, so could be then. However on 7 months 1 beds AKL usually available. |

I would choose OKW, as we love the resort, if you are happy to book ( and stay ) at OKW at the 11 month window, then try and change to something else, then great, if that other place is full, you always have OKW
we own at SSR, the reason, cost, we got a really cheap striped contract, so the choice was made for us, we have so far used it to stay at OKW, AKV Kiddani and this trip POLY |

I would choose SSR , we love it and love the walking at night to Disney springs. have no interest in anywhere else well... apart from those lovely new villas at Copper creek
everyone has different likes and dislikes so its hard
