C&L Bangkok, Elephant Hills & Phuket adventure - March 2017 - Day 1 - Bangkok

Day 1 – Bangkok

We didn't sleep very well, I was awake between 1:30 and 5, but did manage to get back to sleep at 5 and slept until our alarm went off at 10. It was a good thing we'd set an alarm as I think we would've slept the whole morning!

We went straight down to breakfast which was on until 10:30, I had pancakes, bacon and maple syrup which is probably my favourite breakfast foods followed by some fruit, coffee and guava juice. Chris had eggs, bacon, beans and toast, tea and orange juice. The breakfast was very good and we were pretty full.

We went and got ready and then walked to the nearest skytrain stop Victory Monument. I tried a iced tea on the way for 35 baht. This was really nice but had some weird jelly things in!

We got the train to Chit Lam which was 28baht each. The ticket machines were very easy to use.

We got off and walked to find a shrine it had suggested in the guidebook, we walked and walked and couldn't it. Turned out we spent about an hour walking in the wrong direction . In the end we gave up, it was very hot but we'd got to see quite a bit of Bangkok and got a train to Siam which was 31 baht each.

We went into the Siam centre and wandered round the shops. We stopped in their food court, we both went to different counters. We then found out you had to pre-pay for a card so I quickly popped over to the right counter to get this card.

I had spicy lemon friend chicken ad rice which was 79 baht. This was so amazing !

Chris had a crab and pork noodle soup with shrimp wonton which was 85 baht. He enjoyed this.

I loved the toilet signs haha.

We went to find the Hard Rock café so I could continue my collection of t-shirts. This was 1250 baht (just over £30).

We then went to get a train back as we were worn out from the jetlag and the heat.

We relaxed, I went to the gym then we laid by the pool for a while.

The pool was lovely and it was still very hot.

We went and got ready to go out for the evening and left about 7. We got the skytrain to Asok, this was 37 baht. We had read about an Indian restaurant called Sara's in our guidebook so went and found it. We didn't realise it was vegetarian Indian food but we tried it anyway and it was amazing!

We had cheese naan, tandori roti, aloo gobi, paneer butter masala and two soft drinks. This came to 800 baht (£20ish). It was more expensive that other meals we had, especially as it didn’t include alcohol but the food was so good, it was worth it!

We then headed to cowboy street to experience Bangkok hangover style. We wandered up and down, taking in the sights (and being shocked by some of it)! Then we stopped at one of the bars for a drink. I had a glass of wine and Chris had a beer. This came to 195 baht.

We wandered round but we didn’t stay for a drink. We then walked back to Nana which was the nearest skytrain stop and got the train back to our stop.

We got back to the hotel about 11, we were shattered so went straight to bed!

Walked – 16km.

Glad you got some sleep in the end!

The food looks delicious!

How frustrating to walk in the wrong direction - may have done that myself on occasion

We found Bangkok reasonably cheap, Phuket not so much.

I have never been to Asia but we are planning to visit our son who works in Vietnam next year. I am enjoying your report, I love the way you point out things that go wrong (walking in the wrong direction, I did this looking for a beach in Wales once 😀 ). Love the prices too, my DH will be happy with the beer prices.
