Well, not really. The Disney parks were originally aimed at the middle class and well off. Heck, Disney was one of the first to start charging just to enter an amusement park.

Anyway, just the other day, Disney announced record attendance at the parks for the end of 2017. So more people are able to visit the Disney parks today than they ever did in Walt’s day.

Yes I agree. Think it was $17 back in 2015

I guess it’s an extra encouragement to stay on site

We first went 10 years ago and I think the parking was $11 per day

So in that ten years parking prices have increased by 100%. Literally doubled. Nothing else in the park has doubled in price. Food and drink may have increased a bit, but not to that extent.

So the parking is simply because they can get away with it as people have no choice.

They already did a survey on 'resort fees'. It wouldn't surprise me if we soon see that coming in.

We gave up driving to the parks a long time ago. We Uber there and home. Saves walking through the car lots, but we primarily did it so we can enjoy a drink and weirdly felt we had more control over our day. If you're staying close to Disney, I'd imagine it's cheaper to Uber.

Plus as I said in my original post the magic has gone for us.
It's gained drone technology, new rides, new experiences, new Rivers of Light night-time experience.

It's gained Disney Springs which is now an amazing place full of great restaurants and shops.

It's gained new technologies which allow you to order your meals on your phone while you queue for rides.

In the last 2 years, Disney have added or changed the following:
  • Muppets Great Moments in American History added at MK
  • Once Upon A Time added at MK
  • Happily Ever After replaced Wishes at MK
  • Soarin' updated to Soarin' Around the World at EP
  • Joy and Sadness Meet added at EP
  • Frozen Ever After added at EP
  • Royal Sommerhus added at EP
  • Mission Space updated at EP
  • Star Wars: Galaxy Far Far Away show added at HS
  • Star Wars fireworks added at HS
  • New Mickey & Minnie and Olaf meets added at HS
  • Music of Pixar Live added to HS
  • Grand Avenue and TapHouse opened at HS
  • PizzeRizzo opened at HS
  • Pandora, FoP and NRJ added to AK
  • Rivers of Light added to AK
  • Tree of Life Awakening at AK
  • Kilimanjaro Safaris After Dark added at AK
  • Lion Guard Adventure added at AK
  • Miss Adventure Falls added to TL
  • Various updates and new restaurants added to Disney Springs

In addition, Disney are nearing completion of Toy Story Land at HS, are part way through building Star Wars Land at HS, Skyline gondola system between Epcot and HS is underway, Ratatouille and GotG rides at Epcot and Mickey's Runaway train at HS are being built, and they are about to start building the new Tron ride at MK. All those new attractions have to paid for somehow whilst still maintaining/increasing profits (Disney ain't a charity!).

It might seem like there's nothing new, but quite a few things have changed and been added since we were last there only 22 months ago.

All is not lost!

There is so much to do in the area as well as Disney, beyond the parks.

Have a year where you spend less or no time at Disney, and see what else Florida has to offer. You may be very pleasantly surprised.
