Amsterdam with young teenagers

Hi there,
We’ve just booked flights to Amsterdam in late October over mid term. Kids will be 13 and 15. Any suggestions on must dos? Anne frank house is a definite but that’s it.

Thanks in advance

JJ.

Climb to the top of the NEMO museum and look out at the views over the canals. You can walk up there without going into NEMO. There is a snack bar at the top. If the weather is nice the views are glorious.

We use the red route canal bus to go around the canals to Anne Franks house (and prebook that if you can as queues can be long). The red route goes from the opposite side of the canal from the main train-station.

My kids love the HardRock. Tbh it is so similar to all the other ones in the world, but the view across the canals from the back is nice.

The flower market (oh mum, do we have tooooo?) always ends up more enjoyable than they thought. Just potching. Even a bit of a walk through the red light district (easily done if not paying attention at the top end of Dam square) can be an illuminating experience shall we say !

Anne Frank's house is currently under renovation , not sure until when but numbers are limited so walk ups aren't advised . Maybe worth checking and prebooking.

We visited the Anne Frank Haus in April and they were only allowing prebooked people and no walk ups. We found it really interesting there and were glad that we visited.

We also took the train to Zaanse Schans to see the windmills. It’s a bit like a working village.

Mikes bikes tours are good, they do one that leaves the city to go along the canal and see windmills, cheese, clogs etc...

There is a 'Soaring' style ride called 'This is Holland'. Looks good for kids.
I was going to book it for my family when we were thinking of visiting Amsterdam.

We did this when we were there last month. It was really good, we didn’t book in advance and it was fairly quiet so went straight in. It’s next to the Adam tower you take the free ferry over from behind the train station.

I’d also recommend doing a boat trip, again we just booked on the day, there were lots to choose from and lasted about an hour
