Another NHS worker here who works in acute services. Amazingly I have the whole week of Xmas off (never happened before). I booked Xmas eve off a while ago, then luckily many of my colleagues are from overseas and have offered to cover XMas day and Boxing day. I thought I'd cheekily ask on the offchance if I could have the Thursday and Friday off, and no-one else in my dept has asked for that, so I got that as well.

However, both my grown up kids are working over Xmas, so we will have a post-Xmas Xmas dinner on the 27th.

I am lucky that since I changed jobs, I get nearly 2 weeks off this year. However, this will be the first time in my working life (18 years) that I have that much time off.

If I was still in my old job (Heathrow security) I would be rostered 23-26th this year. I worked 22-25th last year. I’ve worked retail for most of my working life, from the age of 15 to 31, so have had to work many Boxing Days and a couple of Christmas Days over the years.

Very grateful to those that work, especially in the emergency services.

I'm an office worker essentially so not working officially any of the nasty shifts, so just wanted to say thank you to everyone who is.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that your shifts are uneventful (not using the Q word!) and that you still get to spend some quality time (see, a different Q word!) with your families and friends.

Merry Crimbo all.

Joa

Husband and I both finish on the 21st December and back to work on the 7th Jan.

Feeling very blessed to get such a long period of time off with the kids. Husband works in Construction and always has a complete shut down at Christmas and this is my first Christmas as my own boss!

My company is open but it's a very quiet shift Christmas Day. I've worked the morning of Christmas Day before and it wasn't bad at all. My husband cooked the dinner and I was banned from lifting a finger for the rest of the day.
This year I'm off though.

Spent 30 years in the NHS and worked most xmas’s. The last ten years as a Nurse Manager I always covered one of the Xmas days so staff could take it off. Retired five years ago... no more Xmas working for me.

Best wishes to all my colleagues in the emergency services working over Xmas. As we all know, sometimes that shift just won’t end... have a good one
