Finally changed careers

So I posted a while ago about changing careers as I’d had to leave previous job as it was seriously affecting my MH. I never took that job, but for the last 10 weeks or so I’ve been working as a lorry drivers mate for a large food distribution company. The change in my MH from when I was WFH dealing with complaints is remarkable.
I just go in, do an honest days work and then when finished I don’t think about it at all until I turn up at the depot the next day. Yes it can be physically demanding at times, but it’s virtually stress free.

In the next few weeks I’m hoping to start driving the 3.5t vans
But I’ve also learnt a few things

School dinner ladies are remarkably friendly. Alway happy to give you a cup of tea or a bacon roll.

Majority of car drivers have no idea that an 18t lorry doesn’t have the turning circle of a mini and can’t fit through a fiat 500 sized gap.

Quarantine hotels are extremely busy especially in Luton and Bedford.

Most buildings (even modern purpose designed) seem to make large deliveries as difficult as possible

Nurses pay could be doubled if the NHS got rid of all those non medical staff who spend their day making simple jobs last as long as the possibly can

It’s not a glamour job, it’s not what I saw myself doing at 53 but for the first time in years I’m enjoying every day at work, even in Friday’s torrential rain when I soaked through to my boxers.😂😂

So if you’re unhappy in your job, don’t be afraid to try something completely different, you may be surprised 😄😄

That’s great news 😀

I am 52 and often think it’s too late to make a change, so it’s reassuring to hear that it can be done and it can be successful.

My DH changed from being a retail manager to class 1 lorry driver at the age 50. He loves it, but its hard work.
He totally agrees about lorries having to breathe in and 90% of deliveries places are not made for lorries

Good luck

Good for you!
You made the move I could never do. I toughed it out until 53 then gave it up. MH improved radically starting literally the day after I left.
Good luck in your new job. Don't look back.

Assuming I’ll get accepted for the van drivers job after 6 moths they’ll pay for me to get the class 2 HGV license

Amazing, I’ve always thought there is a lot to be said about a job where you can leave the worry at the warehouse door as you leave for the day, long may it continue.

Until it was more or less forced on me i would’ve thought the same. But now I wish I’d done it years ago.

It’s just been such a relief not having work on my mind the whole time I’m awake
