Vegas-safe to walk-where to avoid!
We are going for one week, without a car. There are a few restaurants we want to visit slightly off strip, about 20min walk from centre strip. Is it safe to walk to such places during the day?
We will b staying on strip after dark and have been to a few "dodgy" areas before in LA and San Francisco so know to keep our wits about us at all times. Is it pretty much the same or anywhere we should definitely "avoid" wondering into? We know we could taxi etc if need be, but quite like to stroll and see where our legs take us. Thanks

Exactly where are you planning to walk?
The Strip is fine, but there are a lot of homeless people in some nearby areas. I'm not saying that should concern you, but some people don't like to see it and worry something may happen.

I'd be happy enough walking there - it's not picturesque but I saw no danger there

We did get told not to walk pass the Strat towards Fremont Street after dark. We did walk to Ellis Island from the strip and felt fine

I've never felt unsafe and i've been in the Walmart past Fremont Street and in most area's around the strip including the Industrial area's at the back of the strip.
They aren't pretty area's like the strip , but in the daytime i don't see any major issues. |

The Strip up to the Strat is fine...but after Circus Circus, I definitely would stay on the Strip... certainly not wander off it...the area around The Strat is not a place I would walk anytime, let alone after dark... the area from there to Downtown is a definite 'no no' virtually anytime of the day... two or three blocks either side of The Strip is fine but there are some pretty 'difficult' areas when you get past that (especially going East past Paradise Rd and west after Sth Valley View Blvd) ...not meaning to alarm you but...I know the city pretty well and love walking around. You just have to avoid certain areas. The Strip from Circus Circus to Mandalay Bay is absolutely fine, 24/7 though.
