I've done that particular two-step myself.

I just find it really difficult to close the door on someone.

I've only done click and collect since CV, do they normally load your car then? I assumed it was just a distancing thing. Nice free carrier bags too.

Sue

They've only loaded my boot in the most recent CV visits - not the early ones. Carriers have been downgraded from fancy ones with Tesco logo on to the basic ones that are in store in the loose veg department.

I’m not saying they weren’t capable, I have two daughters of my own. And I don’t disagree with staying in the car, makes perfect sense. but I’m not used to people doing things like this for me, goes against my natural instinct. I’d rather help than be helped

Completely agree. I think uncomfortabl/awkward may have been the wrong word. Just something I’m not used to

I've certainly never considered that they were patronising me - just a sensible safety precaution.

I'm 74 and I guess they're far fitter than I am

I never said I felt patronised. And I agree with why they’re doing it. Just feels odd not being able to help when that’s my natural instinct. Similarly in Tesco a couple of weeks ago and a person was trying to carry an armful of shopping They dropped some on the floor and again my instinct was help, but of course I couldn’t

My husband would be the same. He would have to sit on his hands to hold himself back.

I know exactly what you are meaning with your post.

OK - not patronised but never felt awkward either.

Once in our 10 years of doing C&C I got home to find some of the stuff wasn't ours and some of ours was missing - and I'd loaded the car Now I do pull up safely after the canopy just to have a quick check on stuff.

To be honest though I also do top up shops in store at M&S and Lidl and I've found 100% exemplary behaviour from everyone. Self-distancing and not pushing in to look at products

I’m wondering why different Tescos are doing things different ways?
As I said, ours don’t load, we do it ourselves.
Ours is a large Extra store and the click and collect on the car park, is set up atm with 3 bays. We pull up and wait until they ask for our name and then they tell us which bay to use. Wait there until they’ve brought everything out, they say ok you can load now and walk off back to the hut.
So, we’re nowhere near each other, and the 3 spaces are coned off between, so not right next to other customers either.
