I am not sure if you mean a safari in South Africa or if you mean in one of the more southern countries in the African continent? I have been at that time of year but I might not be in the right location for it to be relevant.

I’ve been to Kruger but we went in July so not sure about weather at that time. July was freezing at night with hot days. As for animals we were only two mins into one of the park entrances and saw giraffes, elephants, cheetahs, lions, hippos! I was surprised there was wildlife everywhere I thought we’d have to drive for hours! We had a scary moment with a herd of elephants too :-( I definitely recommend it though, amazing holiday.

We did a South African Game reserve one January . A lot of the Safari's are on private game reserves , they are huge places , but I think you are always aware that the animals are imported and that they are fenced in ... although they are left to their own devices .
South Africa is in the Southern Hemisphere so it will be summer , we did the garden route so in the South the weather was really nice , it does get hotter the further up you go ! We had an amazing time in SA and especially on our 3/ 4 night stay on the reserve. I would like to do Kruger next time though |

We went in January to the Kruger, the weather was hot with no rain. It is their summer season. We saw loads of animals and birds. Would go again. We stayed in Satara camp. It is a malarial area. So check with your travel clinic.
