Hope today goes well ... doesn't seem right word to use but you know what I mean I hope.
With my daughter her reception teacher just thought she was a naughty girl 😡 But when we finally had the diagnosis and went into school the teacher changed straight away and was supportive and helpful, ASD kids have a very good ability to adapt to school day ... if you think about it a lot of it is routine which is what they crave but all the little things stack up and then they seem to release them at home for mum and dad... when we used to tell school about issues we were having they used to look at me like I had two heads 😮

How did you get on? Did she get the DX. My son did, which is a bit of a relief.

Glad things are moving forward for you.
We are having a frustrating time. The appointment was horrible. I ve asked for a second opinion and my daughter is refusing to see that consultant again.
Anyway we got a diagnosis but for other things- anxiety, OCD and ADHD. She wants to medicate my daughter- I'm not as my daughter is fine all day but without structure and routine she is nt, told me in front of her she was a danger to herself and others. She is nt. I'm livid she said this and in front of my daughter who is so impressionable and anxious anyway. She just would nt listen to my concerns. She said traits for ADHD were greater than those for asd. Still considering asd but needs speech language and communication assessment. That's a years wait here in wilts so I'm going private next month. Told my dh I don't want a birthday present but just want this.
Started melatonin last night. I was up 2-5am straight. It's very stressful here!

that consultant sounds horrendous! i hope going privately will help you and your daughter get the support you need. It's tough when you as a mum know there is something that no one else seems to see.

How awful for your daughter to hear that. I think that's terrible

Really seems that services differ from area to area. Here speech and language is easily accessed but Occ Health for ASD isn't.

I would suggest you get a second opinion but it seems that you are already onto that. Was the consultant you saw a CAHMs consultant? Have you been referred to CAHMs for the anxiety, are they offering CBT?

My son is on medication now for anxiety and I have to say that though I was reluctant it is really really working.

Having a DX itself though doesn't open doors, still having to fight for things to try to get my DS a proper education. The assumption now is that he has no social skills (which he has) he's just very literal and black and white in his thinking.

We went private for her social communication assessment. That was last week. Report has already arrived. Therapist was great, said she was very clever, backing and imitating. Struggles with literal thinking and Understanding emotions. Described her as precocious. I ve sent the report on to our paed consultant so now we just wait.
Therapist recommended a book/programme called zones of regulation. It's £100 so going to see if her (unsupportive) school gave a copy.
