Dubai Advice Please

Has anyone done a city break to Dubai and could help me out?

We are going in August as DH wants to see if we like it enough for him to get a job here. Consequently, we need to be there for at least 2 weekdays as he want to talk to some potential employers whilst we are there.

What I would like to know is, where would be a good place to stay? We think probably the city centre rather than the beach area, but WOULD consider the beach hotels if transport in and out of the city is good. Can anyone reccommend a hotel or location?

How do you get around? Ive heard driving is a nightmare...do you use local transport?

ANY help from anyone who has been would be great, thanks!

I have been there but stayed at the beach (Jumeriah Beach Hotel). Very nice hotel but don't know much about city hotels. If you go to tripadviser.com and go the Dubai forum there are plenty of people who know lots - some of them are ex-pats living there. I do know August is very very hot!

Roads are quite busy at rush hour but taxi fares are very reasonable compared to UK.

Been twice, both time stayed a the beach area and used the hotel transport into town, but it only runs at set times (approx 3/4 times a day) and it's usually a first come first served basis. Taxis are pretty cheap but it's around a 30 min trip into the centre from the beach area.

As for hotels, like PAB, I'm not familiar with the city centre hotels so I would also suggest trip advisor for reviews.

We were there last august for a long weekend, and yes it was hot, around 40-45c, but it's a dry heat so you can cope with it a bit better.
