We have had phenergan for my DD and she was fine with it. All medications react diffrently to diffrent people.
I would definitly try the medication before you go just in case of side effects. Go back to your doctor and have another chat with him. |

We have a 13 year old Autistic daughter and this will be her 5th flight to Orlando. Luckily she doesn't need medication. Our daughter enjoys listening to her ipod on the flight, yes she does end up rocking and flapping but hey it keeps her happy. As long as she wears her jeans on the flight, this is a BIG thing with her, again she is happy.Yes she can annoy her sister but her sister can annoy her as well. I don't know your childs abilities but have you started talking to her about the flight, visiting a website, saying how long the flight will be, asking her is there anything she wants to take on the plane etc.etc. If you do need medication please visit her regular GP or even her specialist for advice. Try not to stress, easier said than done I know, because she will pick up on it. Have you asked about pre-boarding to get her used to her surroundings?

My daughter is getting baptised in November and she siad that she can't wait for my friend to be her fairy godmother, now THAT is cute at any age LOL (she's 12)
WE normally get bulkhead seats and to be honest we get on the plane LAST. I hate flying so the less time spent on board the better as far as i'm concerned Poor thing is sick to death of me going on about Florida and everything associated with it. She's going to Malta on Friday with grandparents as she originally said she'd rather go there than Orlando (what's wrong with this kid) But i decided she couldn't miss out, even though i know she really couldn't give a ... mickey mouse Anyway i think i'll stick to piriton and her ipod.stress ball, which i'll be borrowing from time to time, and on board entertainment! |

Mazz That's hilarious. My daughter always does that and always when i don't want her too..Like when she tell the lady in the queue at the butchers that she's fat 'cause she eats too much I just wanna die LOL
It does get harder to explain away as they get older especially when they look so normal |

Hi
Have a daughter who is Aspergers and ADHD. Only on Melatonin for sleeping (occasionally! ) Have been going for the last 5 years and have to say that various electronic gadgets have been a godsend in keeping her occupied. I concur with whats been said already about changing medication so before trip , probably not advisable. As for use of antihistamines, this could cause more problems as these kids can actually become stimulated from them! And we don't want that! LOL! Smiled reading about someone consuming too much coke on plane, this stuff is speed to most kids so try and limit amount of this and other sugary foods. Have always found Virgin staff (and BA) very good at chatting to my daughter and keeping her interested. All in all avoid boredom and too much sugar and you should be fine |

The thing about people with autism is they don't know how to lie or how to be diplomatic, they say what they see. We were in a queue in the co-op and a lady was paying for her shopping. The lady was very sun tanned she was almost black. My daughter, in her loudest voice, said "mum look at that mucky lady" The whole store went quiet. The lady working the checkout said "she's right you know, she looks mucky".

it could explain why i've yet to meet a parent who's shy when their son or daughter has autism
i used to be mouse like quiet and that had to change sharpish with the differentand awkward situations i've been put in i can clearly remember the last bus trip with my daughter as it was the LAST time ever i took her on a bus we clambered on my 3yr old excited daughter and her little brother in a buggy, she plonks herself down only seconds later to be up on her knees facing the people behind us, there was two litle old ladies behind us both with lovely blue rinses, leans over she does grabs one of the ladies cheeks and says very loudy "i love your wrinkly skin, mummy i want wrinkles" the bus was crowded and everyone went silent, here i am very red faced and then the little old ladies companion says "you will have one day dearie" to which my dd replies "goodie" and claps her hands it was cute and excuseable at almost 4yrs but now she's bigger i hiss all the time "no personal comments" when i can see her giving people that look, sometimes it works others it doesn't |
