Excited about Disney

We used my Mum's UK Blue Badge in May 2011. There were certainly no problems with it being accepted within any of the parks we visited (Disney, Universal, SeaWorld & Co., Discovery Cove etc...), but didn't take the risk using outside of this.

Blue badge
We have been going to florida for a long time now and Yes you can use the blue badges at the parks it states this in the information packs at the villas that you can use the blue badge, if you were not allowed then they would stop you from going into the parks and that has never happened, you still pay the same parking fees as everyone else so there is no gain to be had.

For the peace of mind, why don't you apply for a temporary parking tag then you could use it wherever you needed to. Compared to the price you pay for a holiday to Florida, it's a very small amount, peanuts really.
Which information pack, from which villas, are you talking about please? I have never seen any information when staying in Disney stating the UK Blue Badge is eligible to use for disabled parking It actually states in the information you receive with your Blue Badge:

I dont understand what you mean by this
We are DVC members and always stay at Saratoga Springs, normally we get the tag with the hired car but it was missing one year and we asked at checkin / reception if we could use our blue badge for the night and they said they could not guarantee we would not be fined if we used the disabled bay, they did not think we would but as I say they would not guarantee. we have never read in any of the disney information in the villas that it is ok to park using the UK badge for the past 3 years now we emailed Samantha and applied for a Florida badge. so simple and really quick service. we travel to the Malls and Daytona to

Not worth possibly ruining your holiday for £10.

I'm taking my mother for 3 weeks in June and her walking is become worse and worse so I'll be applying for a temp badge while we are over there.
I'm guessing no matter where we have it issued we can use it all over Florida? Hopefully the answer is yes as we'll be staying on South of Naples for the first week.

Thanks Ali, in the past we have managed fine just using the UK badge in the parks, but the least distance my mother has to walk the better for her now.

Just to add to what has been said we had an interesting conversation with a sheriff a couple of years ago in the parking lot at a mall when the UK blue badge issue came up he stated that although the landowner (Disney, Universal or Walmart - it doesn't matter) accepts the use of the UK/European blue badge for parking in disabled bays it is still a statutory offence to park there without displaying a US/Florida tag, the signs at disabled bays will quote this statute with the amount of the fine, and a sheriff can fine you if they catch you as they have ultimate jurisdiction. It is really not worth the risk and knowing you are breaking the law for a few $$.
Information packs at villas are usually compiled by the villa owner or management company neither of whom are qualified to advise on points of law or would claim to be an official source. We have also heard that info in these packs can be out of date as it may have been in this case as the law on this changed in 2007. We have done our best on the Dibb to inform people of this since the change was made as the last thing we want is for a Dibber to end up with a fine. |
