i do think this is appalling and the 15% discount is almost a insult
i always think the discount should be pro rata to the rides and enjoyment that the disabled person can actually experience when compared to that of a able bodied person and if they can only access a small minority of the rides then the discount should be a lot more than a measly 15% i do hope Michelle that you and Beth continue to have some magical disney days for the rest of your hol Beths smiley face has been brightening up my early morning coffee, i log onto fb and there she is beaming, it certainly looks like you've been having a wonderful time xx |

I don't know Ali as I don't think Beth would be able to transfer out of her chair.

They need to be able to sit independently out of wheelchair Ali, even though they stay in their chairs. I argued her chair was designed to support her and crash tested for vehicle but they would not have it.
We left when I got my money back but my cousin stayed, they went over to Universal from IOA and were told at the gate it was pointless taking their dd in as she would not be able to ride anything. 100% discrimination in my mind  |

Wow! In the land of the free, where discrimination is on everyones minds, to tell them that there was no point going in! Safety is one thing, bearocracy is another!
Hope Disney continue to provide their magic. Caj |

That is an absolute disgrace and it is definitely discrimination.
They dress it up as safety reasons without any understanding at all when I suspect that it is more about convenience and ease for the park. I am not surprised you are angry. I hope Beth wasn't too upset

I disagree.
When a abled person goers into teh parks and does not ride, say, the roller coasters, should they also have a discount on their ticket? I am afrais people take the disability rules to the nth degree, of course there are rides in all parks that certain types of differing disabilities cannot ride! No ride is 100% suitable for everyone, and no way should they be. In the USA the Disability discrimination act does not exist and does not apply. I think the cast member telling them that there are no rides that are suitable is quite correct is thats the situation, told before going in is good. I see that disney is not such a white knight in the papers today with the 15 year old dressed as Tinkerbell, but the parrk brochures do say what is "disabled friendly". And yes, I am disabled. |

Dont know what to do now as ds loved MIB, they had special restraints to for the wheelchairs like what we use in the car. unsure if it would be worth renewing the annual pass, only thing was ds2 wanted to go and see HP, we never minded IOA as we knew he couldnt go on anything but he enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere.

Just taken this from their website
Guests Using Manual Wheelchairs For your enjoyment and convenience, all of our shopping and dining facilities are wheelchair accessible. Also, our outdoor stage shows have areas reserved for guests with disabilities. These areas are clearly marked with the International Symbol of Accessibility. At most of our attractions, the queue experience is an important part of telling the story of the overall attraction experience. As a result, we have made all of our queues accessible to guests using manual wheelchairs (with the exception of Pteranodon Flyers® at Universal’s Islands of Adventure®). There are specific boarding requirements and accommodations for those using wheelchairs at each attraction. In all cases, if you are capable of transferring to the ride vehicle’s seating (either by yourself or with the assistance of another person in your party) you may transfer. Additionally, certain attractions are capable of allowing guests to remain in their standard wheelchair throughout: At Islands of Adventure: One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish™, The Cat in the Hat™, Caro-Seuss-el™, If I Ran the Zoo™, Poseidon’s Fury® The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad®, Jurassic Park Discovery Center®, Me Ship, The OliveSM, Camp Jurassic® At Universal Studios: Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast™, Shrek 4-D™, TWISTER…Ride It Out®, Beetlejuice’s Graveyard Revue™, Disaster – A Major Motion Picture...Starring You, JAWS®, MEN IN BLACKTM Alien AttackTM, Fear Factor Live, Animal Actors on Location!SM, A Day in the Park with BarneyTM, Fievel’s Playland®, Curious George Goes to TownSM, E.T. My son could hardly do any rides but now it sounds like he wont be able to do anything at all. pleased you managed to get your money back but it just sounds like the disabled are being punished yet again. |
