I'm sorry to hear of this terrible attack on your young dog. I assume you have the owners details? You must report the incident to your local Dog Warden and as said if you have the owners details give them to him or her. As well, you must inform the police.

We had a dog attach our Spook although it was quite a few years ago now. We contacted the police and they couldn't help as it was no human harmed and told us to contact the dog warden. Spook suffered bites and tears to his rear end including a tear in his ≈≈≈≈ passage that needed operating on. We had pet plan insurance and they paid for all his treatment and then recovered the money from the owners of the dog. It sounds like the police would be a good shout if as you say there was bites to DH too. I hate to hear of this happening to other dogs, Our Spook has never quite gotten over the shock of it all and is still nervous if he sees a dog bounding towards him, he also has to still have ongoing treatment. I hope you are all feeling better soon.

Oh this all sounds so terrible! I’m so sorry for you all.

I have a chocolate Labrador who I’ve always kept on a lead, she’d lick you to death for a mere crumb! But that can be scary to some people, so she’s always been on a lead. If kids want to say hello I always warn them, she’s nice, but not all dogs are. Irresponsible dog owners! I hope they get caught!

Just to update you all again, the police have been in contact to say they have identified the couple and the dog from CCTV and have approached them in town today. They have admitted what happened and are being delivered a community protection order that will last for 12 months, it says the dog had to be muzzled whilst out in public.

I am now going to take civil action against them so will be contacting a solicitor as soon as possible.

Thanks for your support

Jane xx

That’s wonderful news. I’m so pleased the police have taken this seriously. I’m so sorry this has happened to Bonnie and I hope as time passes you will all be able to get over this. Love to you all.

That really is great news - it will in no way make up for what happened to your poor Bonnie but at least other dogs (& people!) are now less at risk.

I sincerely hope they cough up for the entirety of your vet bill + behaviorist sessions.

ETA: I post this wherever I see discussions about dog attacks. If a dog is attacking your dog, the easiest and best way to get it to stop is to lift both it's back paws off the floor into a wheelbarrow position and walk backwards.

If you have pet insurance it might have legal cover or your home insurance might have it. Give them a call it could save you some money in the short term.
