I learnt more and understood the importance of climate change from a 20 minute serious chat with my grandsons than I could ever learn from these idiots that do more harm than good, they get people’s backs up which can have the opposite effect of what they are trying to achieve.
I don’t know what the answer is but educating people sensibly is going to have a much better effect than disrupting the lives of the people they want onboard with their cause .

On the upside I'm sure this morning's events will have given some parents of teens who fancied a trip to London to join the shenanigans food for thought !
to be fair if they feel strongly about the issue. a few slaps around the head will not deter them I would of thought.

wow, some of the comments on this thread are a bit much.

i'm all for raising awareness about climate change, however today's stunt was a little misguided. i suspect it was probably done by a handful of people doing it under the banner of XR rather than something that was "officially sanctioned"... there are idiots in all groups. but on the whole, i support XR...

this seems quite appropriate - thedailymash/news/...20191016189798

How anyone can ever say that one day we will be 100% green or renewable is laughable, what about the process of actually manufacturing, erecting and installing wind farms / solar panels / tidal?

we are talking about steel, lubricants, electrical components / plastics as well as sub-sea installations such as jackets and cables.

All of that still involves mining, steel manufacturing, welding fabrication, oil for lubrication and hydraulic systems, fuel for the offshore service/installation vessels, over ground transportation for all equipment / raw materials, transport for all project personnel driving/flying around the country / globe to various vendor locations etc. etc...

People seem to forget that wind-farms aren't plucked from a tree like an apple, over their life-span they may JUST offset their own carbon footprint, but that wont happen over night.

I've worked across both the Renewable / Oil & Gas industries around the world, and I can tell you now the Oil Industry is still powering ahead full steam with new greenfield & brownfield projects currently underway or under FID to launch within the next 12 months.

isnt that what we've been attempting to do for the last 20+ years though?! it clearly hasn't worked very well, so XR and greta are taking matters into their own hands

I'm not saying it is, but look at the bigger picture, these are non violent protests, we aren't talking about groups like the democratic lads football alliance, the French yellow vests or marches like the student protests that have spiralled quickly into disorder.

It is because this is a peaceful protest that it becomes so difficult to deal with

Nobody, absolutely nobody forgets that. It's just once you have done that, you needs less of all the other horrible things.

What do you propose as a solution? Magic?

I’m sorry but I don’t buy into the “peaceful” protest mantra at all.
Vandalism and deliberate disruption is not “peaceful” in my book.
If they defaced my house they would answer for it.

The moron on top of the train this morning looked very peaceful indeed - lashing out with his boots... imo he got what he deserved today!
