I have been to the hygienist and dentist this afternoon, am on Denplan and no extra charges for PPE
Questionnaire and temp check on arrival, then into the Hygienist who has a gown, mask, visor and gloves on Before starting I had to have a mouthwash for 20 seconds to reduce viral load, then she started but no water machine this time, was all fine Onto see the dentist for check up and that was fine except I thought he didn’t have much ppe on, he wore a throwaway plastic apron, surgical mask and goggles, no visor They hygienist and dentist were both chatting a lot too which I thought was odd as on my instructions before I went it said they would be keeping talk to a minimum Anyway I’m done for another 6 months |

Had a text from our dentist today to say all appointments cancelled until further notice, unless it’s an emergency. Maybe everyone has been refusing to pay the PPE charge.

When we moved to this area nearly 40 years ago I put our names down for NHS dental treatment but had no alternative but to register with a dentist and pay private whilst waiting to move up to the top of the list, we have never made it to the top of the list to be eligible for NHS treatment, I think everyone on the benefits system take the NHS places. When I retired I asked if I was entitled to a discount and was told yes of course, what is your pension credit number, I told her I didn't qualify for pension credit as I was about £9 per month over the limit and was told sorry but you don't qualify for a discount I still have to pay full price. We have both always attended every check up and hygienist appointment and I'm afraid if they now tell me I have to pay extra for PPE then I will walk, simple as that. My dentist has always worn a face mask, gloves and apron so I'm not pay for any extra.

I think it is more them trying to cover the cost of the limited amount of people they can’t see due to the restrictions, mine is also charging £40 PPE. My husbands is £15 but like his dentist told him he has a bigger practice and has spare rooms where mine is small.
