fondant icing usually need either jam or buttercream underneath to get it to stick to the cake though choc spread or similar may work. Fondant icing is usually used for a smoother finish so you may find it harder/more time consuming to create a fur effect than with a buttercream type frosting but it is possible.
You could try royal icing for the fur as you can still texture it but it will dry hard & crunchy

You can actually pipe fondant if you mix it with water. That might be a good option?

The picture that I have posted of the cake, what icing do you think was used? it looks like a fork has been used, but I have bought some proper tools. I might make the body chocolate and mederia for the head, paws and tail unless I just make a icing tail and ears. Stil undecided about the icing, might do a thing layer of butter cream to hold it all and then fondent!

I'd say it's buttercream.

You could pipe fondant but I'm not sure how well it would hold. You'd need to add the teeniest amount of water and squidge and mix until you get the right consistency.
You could try it first with a small amount on a piece of paper to see if you like the effect?

Hi Sandra,

A 3D Westie cake such as these will cost £375 and will provide approximately 30 portions.

If you would like something smaller, then perhaps we could make a sugar model of a Westie on top of an 8" round cake and the cost for this will be £135.00.

With regard to nuts, please be aware that although there are no nuts in the ingredients of our chocolate cake, we do use nuts elsewhere in our kitchen so we cannot guarantee the cake will be completely free from traces of nuts due to possible cross contamination.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Kind regards,

Liza

I have just checked out the website some great cakes on there I do wonder if they made an error with the pricing as the prices on the website seem quite reasonable ... even the wedding cakes are from I think £350 so I wonder if they made an error in the email cant imagine that it would be that price for a cake offering only 30 portions ..

That is crazy! £135 for an 8 inch with a sugar model on top?
Wow, I'm seriously undercharging!

There's no doubt that the westie cake with individual fondant hairs would take hours and hours but £350 does seem a lot. 30 desert portions perhaps (although still expensive) but I'm assuming 30 party pieces looking at it!

Mind you, have you ever looked at the Jane Asher cakes website? Seriously overpriced and very dated looking IMO

**oh, she's closed down by the look of it
