Antibiotics advice
DD has just been prescribed a 5 day course of antibiotics and we fly on Saturday Does anyone know whether we can just take them in hand luggage - I read on VA website that prescription drugs need a doctors letter but we are travelling to Gatwick tomorrow and don’t know whether we would get a doctors appointment in time (our doctors surgery is one of those where they expect u to know a couple of months in advance of being ill )

To be honest, I take my blood pressure tablets out of the box in my handbag. I don't think I have ever lifted them out separately to put them in a tray.

I have to carry antibiotics with me all the time in case I get a particular infection which has landed me in hospital a few times. I don't have a copy of the prescription or a letter from my doctor and it's not a problem.

I think you only need to take a letter/prescription if the drugs are ones that aren't usually allowed in the US (eg codeine). The only reason you're advised to take a prescription for other meds is that you may need to get some whilst you're out there. I may be wrong but that's what I have in my mind

My dd is on 3 lots of meds and we take loads every time. On check in I always say that we have x number of items in hold luggage and 1 of each in hand luggage. I have only been made to take it all in my hand luggage once, but it's best to check as her meds would be my hand luggage!
We take prescriptions and labelled bottles in original packaging for both hold and hand so that if either bag is queried they have all the evidence in both places. |

I put all my meds into pill boxes, and keep in my carry on (personal bag). Have never been questioned at all, even when i took 200 codeine tablets with me..
