[QUOTE=gavvy;14271592]The point of Twilight check-in was to reduce the queues during the morning, with the slow death of the 747s there will be fewer passengers I suppose checking in, so I can see 'Afternoon' check-in being removed altogether unless there is a big backlash, shame

Slow death of 747s and fewer passengers? Think I've missed something! Can you enlighten me please?

747's are gradually being retired and replaced by Lower capacity Airbus flights, I think they plan to phase them out by early next year, a few have already gone.

747 has over 440 passengers, the airbus about 300, that's quite a reduction and has resulted in higher seat prices later this year.

This was an offered service when I booked so I consider it to be part of the Terms and Conditions. Today the Virgin website still states that I CAN check in between 17.00 and 21.00 so even if I booked today that would be part of the consideration of me choosing them rather than someone else. To then withdraw the service before it can actually be used is surely false advertising? I certainly haven't received any formal notification from Virgin.

The A350-1000 can have a max capacity of 480 depending on layout.

So now there will be extra queuing in the mornings which will mean you have to be there at least three hours before takeoff so you might as well travel down early on the morning of your flight rather than pay for a night in a hotel etc and parking.
Ridiculous decision but expect it's all about cost cutting - maybe he needs more for his rocket

I’m not in the UK at the moment so cannot check but I’m wondering if VS has cancelled it’s outsourced contract and will now be extending it’s own employees hours to cover the new hours?

Virgin have very few staff at Gatwick, its all Swisport in Virgin uniforms, It was already cut a few years ago it used to have much longer hours, I assume it's all to do with cost.

I believe the 3 class airbus VS flights at Gatwick are around 300 ish,

As with everything it probably comes down to cost, maybe Gatwick is charging them more for storage or for the desks, it does make it pretty pointless now though and gives BA the edge somewhat at Gatwick, I think theirs is 4-9pm?
