Question Can I take a jar of mayonnaise ?

Just wondered if I can take a sealed jar of mayonnaise into the US? The label says 'made with fresh eggs' on the Sainsburys own mayo. Thanks in advance.

Not trying to be sarcastic, but why would you want to? Honestly, I'm interested. I would sadly think the answer is no.

As it's commercially packaged you may be ok. I assume it's because of allergies or something, otherwise just get it there.

There's nothing at all to stop you taking it in hold luggage (aside from the worry of having it explode over your clothes!) but you'd have to declare it and may not be allowed to keep it - if it's that important then just take/declare it and hope for the best. What I'm trying to say is that you won't get into trouble for trying to take it through as long as it's declared.

Hiya f1 - apparently you can bring mayonnaise into the US:

Yes, the United States generally allows travelers to bring commercially bottled or jarred mayonnaise into the U.S. when arriving on a flight from a foreign country.

Might be worth buying the plastic squeezy type to avoid messy breakages

Have a smashing holiday - if it's owt like the weather we're having at the moment it'll be superb. I think we're breaking winter records in SW Fl

Not being at all critical (I know that people bring certain foods over for all sorts of reasons, not least children on the autism spectrum who insist on a certain brand) but I would love to know why also!

I would be terrified it would break in my case!

Combine all options above, Take the one you want to take, declare it, and see what happens. If Customs take it then you end up in Walmart buying a similar one.

The only way to get this wrong is to take it and not declare it !

We tend to bring back things that are available here

Take a photo of the ingredients so if you do part company for whatever reason you have the best chance of finding something similar.

Open up the "Travellers bringing food ... " tab which confirms it's OK but make sure you declare if asked or risk a $10,000 fine

We always take our own instant coffee because we don't like American brands
