University class of 2022
I think it’s time to start a thread for all those students in year 12.
My daughter will be applying to university early next year, I feel much less prepared than with my eldest as they have missed so much school that school really haven’t discussed it with them yet. I’m sure we were starting to look at Open Days by now for her. Is anyone else starting to think about Uni for 2022. |

We’ve started thinking about it, I’d hoped we could plan some open days and what have you but not many places are organising any as yet. They made a start on putting personal statements together yesterday in pse which I’m pleased about as I think it shows the head of sixth form is on the ball. Having said that her singing teacher has said that it probably won’t be the right sort of thing for drama school applications so she is going to help her out.
She’s wanting to do musical theatre and we’ve booked her for a weeks audition technique training at ArtsEd in the summer so hopefully that will help as that is one of the drama schools she is looking at applying to. It’s really tough to get in first time from what I gather so she’s prepared for that but I’m keeping my fingers crossed anyway! She’s my eldest so this is all new to me, I imagine I’ll be asking a whole load of stupid questions over the next year or so! What is your daughter hoping to read? |

She’s still not sure, but possibly marketing? She’s doing business, media and English at A level. They would usually have had a lot more advice from school by this point. I’m sure it will happen but I don’t want to end up in a last minute panic.

I suppose I’ve got nothing to compare it to but in terms of the sixth form they have been talking about it since starting in September and know her application will need to be in early to facilitate auditions so I’m hopeful that side is under control. She’ll also have to do separate applications for some of the schools as they don’t all use UCAS and some need both so that’s going to take a bit of planning. My dd is a last minute sort of a person- I imagine I’ll be wanting to throttle her at some stage 😃
Lots of opportunities for marketing graduates I think, does she have any unis in mind? |

Well we spotted a list that have links with the Disney academic program so that has definitely sparked her interest, but I am not sure that should be the deciding factor.. It would definitely sway her between two though.

DD in Y12 and already booked in for a couple of virtual open days next month. DS wanted to stay at home and go to local uni so only visited the two nearby, so this is a new world for us. Hard when they’re looking online at unis in towns they’ve likely never heard of let alone visited!

Yes my son is Y12 and is studying music at a performing and creative arts school. He wanted to continue studying music at uni, and in particular performing and songwriting and attended a virtual open day on Saturday for a specialist music college in Brighton. He liked the look of it and we hope to visit a few places in person this summer.
Feels strange thinking about uni already! |

DD is in year 12, and has 2 virtual open days, and 2 physical open days next month. Virtual days are not ideal, but better than nothing at this stage. She is interested in Graphic Design, and Illustration courses, so will spend some time this summer working on her portfolio.

Thanks for starting this thread! DS is in Yr12 doing Spanish, Economics and Geography A levels. He’s looking to do Modern Languages and Economics at uni. DD is in her first year at Warwick Uni so we’ve got an understanding of what needs to be done with applications etc but it still feels very strange contemplating it all with Covid restrictions etc

How is everyone getting on? DS has been to some open days and made his choices, now just the UCAS form and personal statement to sort.
