Low iron and folic acid levels

Hello
I had a blood test yesterday, GP text me today to say I’ve got low iron and folic acid levels. She’s prescribed folic acid and iron. I picked up the prescription earlier. Previously iron has made me very sick. So I just stopped taking it. I’m guessing I just take it and deal with sickness and awful cramps. 😬She’s asked me to go in and see her but appointment is a few weeks away.

What does low folic acid levels mean. Last time I took it I was pregnant and I’m most definitely not pregnant now. Anyone else in same boat?

Also do I notify travel insurance?

Yes do notify your travel insurance! They need to know if you are taking iron tablets!

Folic acid helps your body made red blood cells, which of course take oxygen around your body.

I take the Feroglobin capsules and they don’t upset my tummy like regular iron tablets. They also contain folic acid.

Not sure about the low folic acid levels as I only had this when pregnant (as well as low iron).

My son has low iron levels amongst other conditions and I definitely listed anaemia on his travel insurance. It didn’t make any difference to his premium but I made sure it was on there.

Both my son and my daughter suffer with these and also deficient in Vit D. They have delicate tummies and can only take them with food. Make sure its not breakfast if you have milk because you can’t take Iron with milk 👍🏻
Just both children’s deficiencies are due to bowel issues 😬

Folic acid shouldn’t be taken the same time as caffeine, I take mine 30 mins before my first cup of tea.

Thank you everyone.
I’m just exhausted. Vicious circle as I do tired I’m not eating properly. I’m getting fuzzy head, I can’t concentrate, I’m slurring, my face goes numb. Almost fainted last week at school. I’m a wreck really.

Had camera down my throat yesterday and thank goodness that was all clear for tumours. Do I tell insurance company I had that yesterday but it was all clear.

What happens to insurance when I tell them? Do I pay more ?

Thank you

In normal cases they recommend you take iron with orange juice.

I found my energy levels got better, my memory returned, my palpitations became far less severe and my headaches were less.
I have also found my habit of fainting and requiring food every hour has reduced!
I am amazed at how much better I feel!
I told my travel insurance company, better safe and have it covered.
They didn’t charge more, or at least the premium seems reasonable
