Rocket launch
My OH isn't up to the drive to Cocoa Beach to see the launch tomorrow.
One of our party is keen to see it. I'm always the middle person trying to keep everyone happy 🤣 Is there a good place in Kissimmee or Orlando where (clouds permitting) we can see it in the sky at least and best direction to face? Thanks in advance. |

We saw one from our villa, keep an eye on the NASA feed on YouTube/Twitter and then go out and look East, it'll be small but you should be able to see it.
Ours was a night launch, you could see the flame. But we've seen day launches from Orlando area and you can see the plume of smoke

This is a shuttle launch taken while we were staying at the Poly to give you an idea of what you will see from that distance.

I've seen 2 shuttle launches from Orlando. Pretty much as Dr.JumbaJookiba keep an eye on social media (easier now than 1994 when 5 year old me was flicking through the TV channels at 5:30am first morning and saw the news of a shuttle launch at t-3 minutes). Look east and you should see it going up into the distance.

We saw one when we were on our way to the airport back in 1996.

I have seen a shuttle launch from Hollywood Studios (as was). You see a plume of smoke in the sky. It is as the good Doctor J has described in his post.. albeit in daylight on this occasion.
I was also at Titusville for the Penultimate Shuttle Launch. From there, you could see the launch pad and the Shuttle as it sat on the pad. It was astonishing and moving to see. The ground quite literally shook, even though the launch pad was 10 miles away. This launch is a Space ex Falcon 9, much smaller and a re supply to the ISS. I believe that the launch is scheduled for 0815 gmt.

This website is pretty useful for saying when they are roughly due to take off.
But so many variables on the day if they go or not spaceflightnow/launch-schedule/ |

Yes, I saw it too. Clouds obscured it a bit but saw the initial launch.

We drove up to Titusville last night to see it. Almost thwarted by a McDonalds that took 40 mins to get. The noise was amazing and the whole sky just lit up. Over very quickly...in fact the rocket had returned to the drone ship before I had finished by double cheeseburger! This is the point of separation I think
And the launch... Edited at 04:21 PM. |
