Examples of my fantastic upgrades on NCL

Here are a few examples of upgrades Ive achieved in last few months with NCL

May - from Rome -7 nights round the Med - NCL Epic ( my fav boat ) I booked and paid for a studio for one. I kept searching the prices and bingo the same cruise for me in a club balcony suite was just £189 more …. So I upgraded.

July - same situation. Booked the studio NCL Breakaway, checking prices daily, upgrades to Club balcony suite for £190 more ( Im just off the cruise - was fantastic )

Aug - me and my partner booked an internal at £2107 for 10 nights around Med on NCL Escape including Greece, Malta, Cannes etc. This price includes ALL alcoholic drinks, 2 speciality meals, 250 internet mins, $50 off first person excursions and all gratuities.

I put in a cheeky “upgrade offer” of £125 each to upgrade to a Spa balcony …. You get free access to the Spa thermal suite
OMG - we just got accepted ! So total WE paid £2357

Price now for the exact same room 2 doors away with all the same deals £5268 as in pic below

I love NCL and about to move up to Platinum …. But this is soooooo good! Its partners first ever cruise too

We have our first cruise booked on one of their new ships in May 24.
We got all the freebies, drinks, a speciality meal, cruise credit and Wi-Fi credit. We have just booked an inside as we want to see if we like it first before spending more than we have to, but I will absolutely be bidding for an upgrade when I’m able to.
May I ask, do they send you an email inviting you to bid or do you find it on your booking page?

There are two ways to get upgrades.

1. Yes they “usually” send you an email and a bit like bidding on airline upgrades, you slide the bar across to pick the price you want to offer. I just picked the minimum £125 each for Spa balcony. ( The price for 10 day Thermal Spa pass is £329 EACH ! ) This was accepted. I offered £85 each for standard balcony and I think £200 each for club suite which seems exactly the same as a balcony, as Ive just stayed in two as above.
I say “usually” as I also cruised in January on the Escape - which is also next months ship, and Ive checked. I never got an upgrade email for that one.

2. The other way is to constantly check prices online and when the room you want is an acceptable price you call up and say you want to upgrade and its done at the new price. But check the Free at Sea deals as they change sometimes ( ie one speciality meal, not two. 150 mins of wi fi not 250 etc ) Hardly a deal breaker though.

Ha ha ! Yeah Im off doing random stuff again ! This one lives in Benidorm. Uk but lives there. So ideal that he’s not in my hair 24/7 and I can travel lots and go out with my mates Ive no intention of living in Spain as the tax laws will cost me bundles. Its a 49% a year Schengen countries relationship ! Lol

Met him in Oct, Nov - but just as mates of mate as I was with that American guy. Met again in April, May and June and now spending a month together and doing our cruise

Well done in getting the upgrades, I didn’t know you can bid for them.
Our first cruise was on the Epic and it was that cruise that made us fall in love with cruising. NCL is a firm favourite with me.

I'd be interested in hearing about the tax laws in Spain. Is that also the case if you marry a Spanish person?

Im not sure about marrying as Id never ever get married again- so I never researched that.

I have a very peculiar situation. So in a nutshell, I receive a substantial tax free Government pension. Also Spain has a tax on assets owned called “wealth tax”.

Loads of ex pats believe if their income is taxed in UK into a UK bank account, its under the radar. Spain is a little “behind” with technology but if you get caught up with, the Spanish tax authorities are after you - bit like the IRS in USA lol

its a very specific situation and the laws are rather unwieldy so everyone is different x

Yeah I’ve cruised Disney, Carnival and RCI and my total favourite is NCL. I reach Platinum by the end of the year.
