We had ours installed about 4 years ago but didn’t have a battery. We have sunscreen retro fitted a small battery but really need a bigger one so we can store what we generate as we now have 2 electric cars. We always look at the price though and wonder if it’s worth it but with rising bills we may have to bite the bullet.

We are also looking into battery storage- not totally sure it’s worth getting one retro fitted just yet. Husband is currently monitoring usage and seeing if it is worth it for us.

Once the lease is over you can either have them taken off or keep them and you then get the extra electric to sell back! We are loving them. The company is 'A shade greener'
Thank you. Definitely something to consider

Just to add what caj (wifey) said earlier I've attached a graph showing the solar we generated today (pink) and what we drew from the grid (blue)

On an ideal day (when it it is light!) The blue line will be less than the pink line. In this example caj (we think) messed up the delay timing for the washing machine which is why there is a blue blip at the start of today. This is no way a criticism of her as she has taught me all I know about solar!

I reckon on a really good solar day we will get the panels generating about 3.9KWh

I know it's nerdy but a picture paints a thousand words !

My husbands company fits these

A lot of people take them on finance, but that cost is offset by the reduced bills, then after the 5 years the costs are even more reduced.

Install dates are out to Jan now as so many people are having these done.

Thanks everyone for sharing what you've had installed and how it works for you. There's definitely a lot to consider, but I'll definitely look into the water heater and battery side of things too.

We'll be moving at the end of October🤞, so do people think there's much point in getting them installed over winter, or better of waiting until spring?

Install are dates are months out due to the back log as so many are having them done.

Ah, that's good to know. So probably best buying sooner to get a spring date booked in.

The sooner you get them, the sooner you start saving! Albeit in winter they are less productive obviously!

Martin Lewis did a feature on this recently. In summary it will take between 14 and 20 years to break even.

Not really an investment either due to the on going maintenance you will need.
